"Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover"

We live in a world in which people, every person that you meet will judge you for how you look, how you act, how you handle things, how you make decisions and what is your status in life. There are many people who are very hard to please and while there are only a few that are easier to please. But the point is, why does people care so much about being accepted, wanted and be the center of the crowd? Does pleasing people help us bring joy and peace in life? Do we need to feel wanted and accepted to be able to say we are successful? Why does status in life in general is so important to people?

I stand in the term of "Just be yourself". I genuiely believe that when you act and be yourself in front of many people, that is how you will truly gain the respect and the integrity that you really deserved. Meanwhile, pretending to be somebody else in order to please other people may bring dissatisfaction, unhappiness and empty within themselves.

Personally speaking, I grow up hearing many and different kinds of harsh words. Some of it comes from my own family, friends, co-workers and some people that i just met. All the harsh words that I have heard affected me a lot and it somehow made me lose my confidence. The good and positive thing about me is that even when I got hurt by the harsh words but I lifted myself up and help myself to bring my confidence back. I eventually learn how to ignore them or rather just chose to treat those harsh words as concerns or compliments to do a better job or be a better person. After all, I cannot please everybody.

I was judged by how I look. I look innocent and naive, people cheat, lie on me plenty of times and take advantage of my kindness. Eventually i figure out the truth and I learn my lesson on not to be so kind to people who only sees me as an object or somebody who only comes to me whenever they need something.

The thing is we cannot change how we look, whether or not we look kind or mean. A person shouldn't be judge by how they look. We should all get to know a person first before we judge them.

Yours Sincerely,

Michelle Chan

Phuket Trip 2016

hAs I mention on my previews blog that I will be travelling again. This time I'm going to Phuket, Thailand. This is my second time in Phuket. I went with my boyfriend Ryan and our husband & wife friends Jason and Yuko with their super cute daughter Khianti.

Here is the video of our Phuket trip. Don't forget to read my blog after watching ✌

My flight to Phuket was on Saturday, 12th March 2016. It was a solo flight again (again for work reason). But honestly speaking I enjoy flying alone. Upon checking in, there was a problem in my booking reference. The ground lady can't find my booking reference and I swear I was in a "i got screwed mode". She suggested me to call the agency where I have purchased my ticket. So I tried to call the agency but nobody was picking up and I tried reaching out my friend, Yuko (who was already in Phuket) for her to contact the agency. After a few minutes, the agency finally gave me the correct booking number. They have changed my reference number without telling me, which is very very bad and to think that this is my first time booking my flight with an agency just to get a cheaper rate. I will definitely not do that again. Word of advice to everyone, better book your flight or even the hotels by yourself.

I am lucky enough to reach on the boarding  gate right on time. I took Thai Airwasys. Since I love to fly and to be on an airplane and eat the "airplane food" so I'm pretty much excited. I had Chicken Fried Noodles for my breakfast meal. The food was quite good. I reached Phuket on time too.

The driver had picked me up from the airport to drive me to the Villa. We stayed in Nai Harn Baan Bua Villa. It's around almost 2 hours away from the airport. The Villa was very nice, it has a swimming pool, a large kitchen, dining table and living room, It has 4 bedrooms and a laundry room. It is a perfect home for a family. The first thing I did was to unpack my stuff and head out to grab some merienda (afternoon snacks) with Ryan. He drove a motorcycle and this is my first time riding a motorcycle with him. The feeling was amazing, having a boyfriend driving for me.

Around late night we all went to Patong Beach to party!!! We were already drinking our beers inside the car before we even reach Patong Beach. The holiday mode is definitely super high!

We went to this club called "Illuzion". There's no entrance fee and we got ourself a table. We ordered a bottle of Absolut Vodka with sodas and tequila rose shots. The place was very huge and there's a huge DJ booth with a stage for the dancers to showcase their moves. We ended up going down to the front stage and It was amazing! I haven't done this for a long time and the DJ and the dancers was very cool and very entertaining. The last thing I remember inside that club was chugging a tequila white shot with Ryan (oh man! as much as I love tequila, that is also my weakness).

We took a taxi van to our villa and we paid around 400 baht. By the way, it is hard to bargain with the taxi price in Phuket. Everyone seems to have a fixed price over there. When we reach to our villa, I was very hungry and I decided to cook noodles. I grabbed whatever noodles I saw in the drawer without checking what it is (it's in thai characters by the way). Without me knowing, the noodles was actually very very hot and spicy but I still continue to eat it and I finished it. I was that hungry and drunk. This was definitely a memorable night.

The next morning we woke up with a hangover (of course!). I had a huge stomachache when I woke up from the super spicy noodles that I forced myself to eat last night before going to bed. What can I say, drunk people do stupid things. So we decided to just stay home and relax and have BBQ night at the villa. We had beef, chicken and pork barbecue skewers, grilled corns and sausages. It's pretty simple but we enjoyed it. We all slept early tonight to ready ourself for our Island hopping activity in the next morning.

Monday, 14th March 2016 - Island hopping to Krabi Island

(Tup Island, Chicken Island, Poda Island & Phang Ngra Beach)

The next morning  we all wake up very early around 6:00am as we need to catch our van pick up at 7:00am to bring us to Rassada Harbour to go to Krabi Island. We selected "Phuket Tours" (http://www.phukettoursdirect.com) because they are reliable and they offer cheap rates with lunch and transportation included. We paid 1700 Baht for the packages plus 200 Baht for pick up/ drop off to villa and 400 Baht for the National park fee in Krabi Island. It is 2300 Baht in total per person.

Rassada Harbour

The boat ride took around 2 hours. It was a steady ride and we get to enjoy the breeze of the ocean.

We were transferred to a speed boat once we arrived at Nopparat Thara Pier. Our guide first introduce us about the Krabi Island. It consists of around 200 Islands and we have 4 Islands to visit.

Arrived at Nopparat Thara Pier

First, we went to Tup Island and Mor Island. These 2 islands are linked together. We we given around 30 minutes to relax and swim around the beach. We saw so many little fishes and actually one of them sort of bite me! It's not painful but just tickles.

For the second island, we went to the Chicken Island. The reason why it is called the Chicken Island is because it looks like a chicken. See the below picture for the proof. We were given around 30-40 minutes to enjoy snorkelling among the coral reefs and fishes around the island. It was amazing how there are so many fishes. After that, we had our lunch at the same island. They serve dishes like fried chicken, fish fillet, vegetables with rice and waters are also included. It is a simple lunch yet delicious.

For the third island, we went to Poda Island. We were given an hour to enjoy sunbathing and swimming. I chose to relax and sunbathe as the sun was out. I normally turn around every 10 minutes but after a few rounds I end up falling asleep. I woke up not knowing how long since I last switch side. Unfortunately I got very red. So a very nice tip to everyone is to make an alarm in every 10 minutes, so you don't end up making yourself turn red!

Finally, the fourth and the last island was at Phra Nang Beach. We were given 30 minutes to explore the beach and the Phra Nang Cave. It was quite a long walk to the cave. The funniest part about Phra Nang Cave is that it has plenty of wooden male private object figures. I am not quite sure what is the meaning of this until I did some research about its legend. Apparently, the cave is known for the home of a mystical sea princess, where fisherman come to the cave and give offerings for their fishing success and also help with fertility. Other than the cave, there are some spots for you to do rock climbing. It's entertaining to watch people doing that.

On our way back to Nopparat Thara Pier, we also passed by Railey Beach. It look like a nice island, maybe in the future I will come visit this island. We took another 2 hour ride back to Rassada Harbour. We all slept the whole time as we are feeling very exhausted. It was an amazing island hopping trip and it was worth it. I hope to do it again soon!

For tonight's dinner, we decided to go out to Rawai Beach to have a seafood dinner. Along the beach area, there are a lot of seafood restaurant to choose from and finally we chose to dine at "Talay-Zeb". We started off with a bottle of beer each and we ordered a lot of dishes such as, Crabs, Steamed Fish in Thai Style, Squids, Mussels, Morning Glory and of course Fresh Oysters. We ordered a total of 20 pieces of Oysters. I believed I had at least 10 pieces. Each Oysters cost 50 Baht each and that's HK$ 10.00 each, which I definitely would go crazy for it.

After the amazing dinner, we went to have a foot massage and foot scrub in a spa called "Welcome" which it reminds us of the supermarket here in Hong Kong. The ladies are super friendly and they kept entertaining us. The massage and scrub cost around 500 Baht each, which I think was pretty reasonable and they did a very good job. Our feet feels very soft and refresh. Overall, today was very productive and unforgettable day.

Tuesday, 15th March 2016 - Safari tour in Phang-Nga (Khao Lak)

Today we all woke up at around 5:30am and we are set to depart from our villa around 6:30am to go to Phang-Nga Province to visit Khao Lak National Park for some safari adventure tour. The ride almost took us 3 hours to get to Phang-Nga Province. We all slept through the car ride as we are still exhausted from yesterday's activity.

The first activity we did was the Elephant trekking for 30 minutes in the jungle. The Elephant we were riding was called "iPhone". We thought that was very hilarious.

For lunch time, we had a lot of selection. It's not the buffet style but instead they serve us the food into our table. We had soup, chicken dish, sweet and sour fish, vegetables and spring rolls, The food are delicious. This is by far the best lunch I ever had in a tour. I had an ice cream after the delicious meal.

After lunch we visited the Tsunami Memorial in Khao Lak. There was a big marine ship being displayed in the middle of the memorial ground. This was the ship they used to rescue people from the Tsunami disaster. There are also some information like posters with images posted inside the memorial ground, which was quite heartbreaking that many people had died during this unforeseen disaster.

Our next stop was the Monkey Cave Temple. This is me and Ryan second time to visit the Monkey Temple. The last time we were here was 2014 and there were plenty of monkey around and the cave wasn't open for public. Now they moved most of the monkeys in the jungle and opened the cave for public. We paid 20 Baht for the admission fee to get in to the cave. Inside the cave, there are many buddha statues and some fortune telling board. We manage to find some monkeys around the corner of the trees. We gave them some peanuts to eat. We also saw 2 baby goats and they are just lovely. Ryan feed them some milk.

For our last stop, we went to the Fruit market. I brought some grapefruits and the others brought some durians. We had another 3 hour car ride back to our villa. We happen to passed by Kata area and it looked like a nice place to go to for our last night in Phuket.

After we reach our villa, we all took a quick shower and head out to Kata. We decided to go for shopping for a while before dinner time. There were a lot of goodies and souvenir shops around. You can always bargain the price with the sales lady if you want cheaper price. For dinner we had Thai food.

Fpund this in the Thai restaurant in Kata area. We can't stop laughing. I would honestly think they did this on purpose so people like us will feel entertained.

After dinner we went for fish spa. This is the first time I tried this and its tickling. I couldn't last for 10 minutes.

Then we went for another foot massage night in Darin Massage and Beauty Salon. This place is beautiful. It is clean and it smells very good. The staff were friendly and nice. We paid 350 Baht each and it included a drink (tea or coffee) after the massage. This is by far the best massage place I ever been in Phuket. I will for sure come back to this heavenly spa whenever I'm in Phuket.

Overall, this 5 days trip was amazing and an unforgettable one. It's really sad that we need to go back to reality, to work and be in the odd weather once again. I will definitely miss the villa, the food, the friendly people, the nightlife and the heat.

Happy Hearts Day!

This year's Valentines my date is none other than my boyfriend, Ryan. This is our 4th Valentines together and so far I am still not sick of him being my date (Just kidding!).

As we were so hooked with the TV show  "Hells Kitchen" by Gordon Ramsay. We then both decided to go to Bread Street Kitchen & Bar located in Central. We wanted to have a taste of one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurant.

We went there on February 16, 2016, 2 days later than the actual V-day due to work reason. It doesn't really matter if we don't celebrate it on the 14th, what matters is we did celebrate it and plus we don't have to eat dinner in such a busy crowd.

We made the booking at 9:15pm but we were running late so we reached there by 9:30pm. The interior style was very modern, relaxing and It is actually quite a big place.

My valentines date

For starters, we had Pan Fried Scallops (a must try and super tasty) and Sesame Seared Yellow Fin Tuna (a must try too! although the portion could be a bit bigger)

For main course, we had the Traditional Shepherd's Pie cooked with Potato Puree, Parmesan, Beioche Garlic Crumbs (It is quite heavy despite it came in a small tray, the pie was tasty), and we also ordered the Rib Eye Steak worth of 12oz/350grams (we were just a bit dissappointed on how it was cooked but we still finished it).

For dessert, we had the Chocolate tart with Salted Caramel Ice Cream both for sharing as we were really getting full but we just wanna try out their dessert to end our dinner.  The Caramel Ice Cream particularly was very yummy.

Overall, the food was quite satisfying but I just wanna point out one thing that we both agreed that the starters are more yummier than the main course. I mean the main course was good but we feel like the starters were better. The service was good and I appreciate them for giving us a nice sofa table.

I can't wait to try London House in Tsim Sha Tsui soon!

Sinulog 2016

Sinulog is known for a yearly festival that is held during the 3rd Sunday of every January in Cebu, Philippines. Sinulog is the celebration of the Sto. Nino. The celebration includes Parades along the road, family and neighbours gathering, party events, drinking session and lechon time!

Here's the video of the trip. Don't forget to read the blog after watching ✌

My boyfriend Ryan is from Cebu, so pretty much he plan this trip. Ryan and his Pirata boys went to Cebu first and I reached there on January 16, 2016 (Saturday). I took the earliest flight in Cebu Pacific at 9:45am. I was super shocked as this is the first time that the plane was full of foreigners and not Filipinos. After 3 hours, the plane finally landed in Cebu Mactan International Airport and as soon as I reached the Immigration counter, the crowd was filled with tourists. All of them are here for the Sinulog festival, how incredible! The line for the Philippines Passport was very short (I guess it's the first time in my experience). Ryan and his little brother Christian picked me up from the airport. The first thing I said when I first saw Ryan was "You look shit face!". Apparently they had a drunken night and he's obviously still drunk. But I really appreciate it that he came to pick me up under any circumstances. Love him!

Alta Vista Palacio is the villa we were staying in, It is quite far from the main area but this place was stunning. The villa was huge, it consists of 3 floors with 4 rooms, swimming pool and garden, games room with billiards and mini bar, a huge and complete kitchen (as in it has everything) and family size dining room and living room, This is truly a dream home. What I did first thing is to unpack my things and hit the swimming pool. It is really cold back in Hong Kong and I have missed the water and sun.

Breakfast early morning for Sinulog

So today is the official Sinulog festival. We all woke up early today and had a nice breakfast like a big happy family. After that we head to the road and start our Sinulog walk to the Mango Square, where the party place is. It was super hot and sunny. The heat was too strong, along with a huge crowd but we made it to Mango square before nightfall and it was a relief and I'm actually happy that I did the Sinulog walk. It was my first experience and I get to see some Filipino celebrities in the parade such as, Solenn Heussaff, Richard Gutierez, Maya Salvador, Noy Volante and Coco Martin (in his black leather jacket, why though? It's hot isn't it?).

At midnight, Me and Ryan decided to go to his Grandma's shop. It was quite a long walk as it is super hard to get a taxi at that time. It was great to see his grandma again after for so long and she seems pretty happy seeing us too. We went back to our villa after a while. My feet was so tired but I'm glad that I survived walking with my 3 inches boots for the whole day.

Danasan Adventure Park (Monday, 18th January 2016)

The next day we all wake up pretty late due to the great night from yesterday's festival. It was awesome though and the hangover was definitely worth it. But of course we didn't want to waste our day without doing anything so we hired a van for Php3,000 to go Danasan Adventure Park. It was a long ride and a rough one too but that's okay, It's part of the adventure.

When we finally reach the adventure park we were very hungry but the food will be ready in about 30 minutes, so we though of doing 1 activity first while waiting for the food. We went for the ATV ride. It was very muddy and fun.

I actually kind of regret not doing the Sky Drop as it look very fun after watching them doing it (maybe next time ?). So for dinner we had BBQ night in our villa.

Bandian Kawasan Falls (Tuesday, 19th January 2016)

Today we decided to go to Bandian Kawasan Falls to do the Canyoneering. It was not as far as yesterday's ride. We paid Php1,000 for locals and Php 1,200 for the foreigners (sucks for the guys haha!).

The package includes:

A motorbike ride to take you to the starting point

Helmet, life jacket, slip resistant shoes and waterproof bag

2 guides

When we reach the starting point, there is already a big fall for you to jump. I was the last in line and I couldn't jump as I am afraid of it. I just couldn't do it at that time, my heart was beating so fast so the guide bring me to another way to get down (actually regret it after jumping a few not-so deep jump).

The Canyoneering lasted for 3 hours. It was exhausting, the water was very deep and I accidentally fell to one of the rock. i slipped while I was trying to jump over to a big rock. It was very clumsy of me. i had a big scratch on my knee but at least i only scratched my knee and not my face or my head. It was a great adventure though and this is my first time to do this kind of activity although I didn't do the big jump but I am still glad that I made it to the end of the trek and there's always a next time for me to do that kind of big jump. I should always remind myself that I should never let my fear overwhelm me, I just need to do it without any second thoughts (A lesson learned indeed!)

Last night in Cebu

More likely it was my last night as I am going back to Hong Kong first. We all felt very exhausted to go out. So we just stayed home and cooked some food. I cooked Sinigang with Salmon Head and Chef Prem cooked some chicken and beef dishes. It was a lovely dinner and I was sad to having to pack my stuff and go back to Hong Kong and back to work. But that's okay, I will be on my holidays again in March for Phuket. I won't be vacation-lag for too long.

Overall, this whole Sinulog trip was awesome. I had an amazing time with the people I am with during the trip and It was better than my first experience in Sinulog. This is my 4th time in Cebu and I would consider this as one of my favorite and unforgettable trip. I can't wait for my next trip!

My 25th Birthday

Some say getting old sucks and while some say getting old brings a new endeavour in life. It really doesn't matter. Age doesn't matter at all!

For me, I love birthdays, I like to celebrate it and spend it with my family and friends. This year I choose to celebrate it in a very simple dinner and drinks with friends during the countdown and family dinner on my exact birth date. By the way, my actual birthday is on December 27 and I just turned 25 years old.

This year I choose to celebrate my birthday dinner or you could also say countdown celebration in PIRATA located in Wan Chai. Pirata is my favorite Italian restaurant in Hong Kong. It is the best and the ambiance is very overwhelming and relaxing. It is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.

I booked the place at around 9:30pm and as usual i am the earliest to arrive, knowing how punctual my friends are (But i still love them). We all started off with a glass of Prosecco complimentary from my boyfriend Ryan, who happens to be working in Pirata as well as one of the awesome bartender.

I have already planned out which food to order. I actually have a list! What can I say, I like to be well-organised.

For Starters, we had Vitello Tonnato (very delicious!), Fresh Garden Tomato Bruschetta (My all-time favourite), M.M.M. (My Mama's Meatballs) and some Cold Meats and Cheese Selections.

For Main courses, we had the Butchers' Cut (something to die for), Pappardelle with Duck Ragu, Tagliatelle with Black Truffle (the scent of the truffle is just great) and Honest Risotto (the best risotto i have ever had).

For Desserts, we had Tiramisu and the 25 cupcakes that I brought it. Yes I actually got myself 25 pieces of cupcakes to match with my age HEH!

BUT before the dessert part, they surprised me with a birthday countdown while bringing in the cupcakes and the tiramisu dessert with a "Happy Birthday Michelle" wording made requested by my friend, Naz and also an unexpected birthday cake from a bestie (RITIKA aka the Indian Goddess) who lived all the way in Guangzhou and was unfortunately wasn't able to come, but instead surprised me with a cake!!! I was speechless and happy!!!

I truly feel grateful that I have these amazing people around me during my most special day. I would like to take this chance to thank everybody who have greeted me, to the Pirata team that took care of us that night and for just simply being awesome!, to my friends who came to my birthday dinner (Naz, Vicky, Kenny, Ariel, Reinhard and Pauline), Thanks to my awesome boyfriend for making it extra special by being there during my birthday and for being there for the past 4 years, to my family for being supportive and of course to GOD.

I am looking forward to my 26th birthday in 2016!
